Introduction to Camping - April 2025

IMG_3674_edited.jpg

On April 6th we took a group of 15 undergraduate students out to the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve. The goal of this trip was to give students a chance to get comfortable with camping. This included cooking on camp stoves, setting up a tent, and sleeping on sleeping mats. We aimed to provide a free opportunity to students who were unfamiliar with camping and would be taking a field course in the near future. By providing this opportunity free of charge, we were able to take steps toward creating a more equitable and inclusive experience outdoors.

Below we have included a variety of images showcasing this trip, along with anonymous quotes from students.

"I enjoyed everything about this trip, and enjoyed the new camping skills l've learned, the community I've met, and all of the laughs and good memories."
"I loved sitting at the campfire, telling stories and making smores."
"I had an amazing time! Big Sur is beautiful at the camping site was so cool."
